Judge of American Idol - Simon Cowell
Simon Cowell has already made a name for himself when he agreed to become a judge on the first season of American Idol in 2002. Joining Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson at the judges’ table, many viewers know Cowell best for his sarcastic comments, witticisms, and attitude towards the contestants. Cowell is famous for his harsh and blunt comments, which are often cut off by audiences on American Idol booing him before he had his voice heard. Regardless of his notoriously critical reputation, contestants value Simon Cowell’s opinions. Even viewers, who are responsible for voting throughout the elimination rounds of the top 10 contestants, take note of Cowell’s comments.
Cowell’s signature phrase is “I don’t mean to be rude, but…” which is followed by a blunt comment about the contestant’s singing talent, personality, clothing and even appearance. Not everyone knows this, but Simon Cowell’s one-liners on the show were the product of personal coaching from publicist Max Clifford. Simon Cowell is also popular for teasing his co-judge Paula Abdul, particularly when Abdul tries to voice out her comments and Cowell cuts her off, which then turns into an entertaining argument between the two judges.
Simon Cowell has become an icon for American Idol and the show will never be the same without his no-nonsense quips and career advice.
